今後の予定

□□非線形コロキウム(先端研究拠点と合同)
日時:5月21日(月) PM 4:00 (Mon. May. 21, 2012)
担当:Dr. Hugues Chate (CEA - Saclay, France)
題目:Alignment vs noise in self-propelled particles: minimal models for collective motion and their continuous descriptions
概要:Two important 1995 papers have marked the birth of collective motion studies in physics: Vicsek et al introduced what could now be described as the ''Ising model'' of this new subfield. This prompted Toner and Tu to propose a continuum theory of flocks which they showed to give rise to long-range orientational order even in two space dimensions. In this setting, the complexity of most natural instances of collective motion is reduced to the competition between local alignment and noise in interacting self-propelled particles. As I will show, this nevertheless gives rise to important and new physics. In this talk, I will give an update of our current knowledge about the Vicsek model, the Toner-Tu theory, and their relationship. I will also present the emerging picture of universality classes brought about by recent progress in the study of Vicsek-like models together with their continuous descriptions.

□□非線形セミナー (supported by GCOE)
日時:6月13日(水) PM 4:30 (Wed. Jun. 13, 2012)
担当:Professor Avraham Soffer (Rutgers University)
題目:Soliton and Vortex Dynamics and Tunneling- Hydrodynamic Analysis
概要:I will describe a method, based on the hydrodynamic formalism, to study the problem of soliton and vortex tunneling from wells, and related phenomena. In particular, I show how this approach uncovers a new structure of tunneling processes, for both LINEAR and nonlinear Schroedinger equation. This new process, in which the tunneled wave appears as blips outside the well, has been observed experimentally.

題目:Asymptotic stability of solitons - Modulation Equations
概要:I will describe a general theory to study the dynamics of soliton type solutions of Dispersive equations, under small perturbations. The soliton equations are nonintegrable in general, and the dynamics for large times of such systems is very rich and complicated. The approach I will use allows the control of the dynamics for all times, the scattering theory included, for small perturbations of such solitons.

題目:Mechanical control of cell rearrangements in the development of animal forms
概要:Understanding dynamics of forces that drive body deformation is one of the central questions in developmental biology. To address the question, we developed a Bayesian formulation for estimating the cell pressure and the cortical tension from the morphology of cells. By using the method in combination with experimental validations, we identified a novel mechanism of cell rearrangements in the growing Drosophila wing.

題目:Dissipation through dispersion
概要:We consider systems coupled to a dispersive medium, in particular, Hamiltonian systems, both linear and nonlinear. The prime examples are the Nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation, the NLS with multibound state linear part, and the resonance problem in Quantum Mechanics. We show how the coupled modulation equations to the internal degrees of freedom of the localized system, leads to dissipation, through the dispersion of waves to infinity, and to ,in general, nonlinear Master equations. In particular, this approach was used to derive rigorously the phenomena of "Selection of the Ground State" for NLS, which was later observed experimentally.
